Whether its the preparation of energy audits or the creation of land plans, our participation in this first national program for neighborhood design helps us help our clients to integrate the principles of smart growth, urbanism and green building,
What is L.E.E.D.?
L.E.E.D. is an internationally recognized green certification system, providing third-party verification that a building or community was designed and built using strategies aimed at improving performance in the following areas: energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources.
Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), L.E.E.D. provides architects, planners, engineers, building owners and developers a framework for implementing practical green design solutions. As L.E.E.D. for Neighborhood Development takes the benefits of L.E.E.D. buildings onto the broader stage of neighborhood, L.E.E.D.s holistic, integrated approach to sustainability touches on all phases of development. The category of Sustainable Sites for example, works to minimize a building's impact on ecosystems and waterways; encourages indigenous landscaping; rewards smart transportation choices; controls storm water runoff; and reduces pollution.
Although L.E.E.D. is a voluntary certification program, it is technically rigorous. According to the U.S. Green Building Council, an organization's participation demonstrates leadership, innovation and environmental stewardship.
